Dental fear and anxiety
Some people are so frightened of dentistry they will not visit a dentist at all. We are sympathetic about these feelings and want to help everybody get the dental care they deserve. We offer a free initial consultation with our treatment co-ordinator where you can talk about your worries and be put at ease. This can be over the telephone for those too nervous to get to the practice.
We never make any negative remarks about the state of your teeth, because we are here to help not criticise. We are also careful to take things at your pace and would stop whenever you asked us to or if you looked worried, so that you are in charge at all times.
All our patients benefit from our warm and caring approach and the relaxing atmosphere of the practice, and for many this is enough to overcome their fears.
Some people with dental fear or a strong gag reflex can benefit from hypnotherapy. This is something which our qualified hypnotherapist, Emma Carey, has successfully helped many people with.
We can also prescribe an oral sedative like Valium before your visit. This will relax you on the day and help you sleep well the night before.
Levels of dental anxiety vary from patient to patient. Laura and Adam are very gentle and caring dentists who have successfully treated many patients with dental fear.

I used to be terrified of the dentist until I was introduced to Hopkinson Dental by my mum when I developed toothache.
Laura instantly made me feel at ease and explained everything to me. I had some treatment and the pain went away immediately.
Now I know I have nothing to worry about – every time I visit the dentist I get a warm welcome and I feel completely relaxed.
