Treatments and Services

At Hopkinson Dental you can expect consultations where we really listen to you. We offer a range of preventative, restorative, hygiene, implants, cosmetic and orthodontic options for adults and children, and work with you to achieve a healthy mouth and a great smile.

We also provide care and support for nervous patients.

We take the time to really listen to your concerns and provide a thorough examination of the neck, salivary glands, facial muscles, jaw joints, lining of mouth, tongue, teeth, existing dental work and gums.

We take x-rays at intervals recommended by professional bodies based on a thorough analysis of risks and benefits.

Following this you have plenty of time to discuss the findings with us and ask any questions you may have. If you want or need some treatment we can give you a full explanation of the procedure and a written estimate of costs. Return to top

We believe that teaching people how to look after their mouths is one of the most important parts of our job. Prevention should start as early as possible and we always provide families with advice on healthy eating and tooth brushing. Where it is indicated we provide fissure sealants to children’s teeth as soon as they come into the mouth to prevent decay. We can provide advice on fluoride toothpastes and apply fluoride varnish to the teeth to strengthen the enamel.

We recommend appropriate hygiene therapy for all of our adult patients. Once our skilled hygienists have provided you with a sparkling fresh mouth they can work with you to find a suitable home care regime to maintain fresh breath, beautiful teeth and keep gum disease at bay. Return to top

Restorative treatment

We believe in Evidence Based Practice and can discuss with you the pros and cons of different filling materials to allow you to make an informed choice. We can provide you with white fillings to blend perfectly with the surrounding tooth and replace unsightly stained or chipped fillings.

A crown (sometimes referred to as a cap) can be provided for strength or appearance reasons or to replace an old crown which has failed. Our technician uses the latest technology and devotes himself to making each crown a bespoke work of art. We will settle for nothing less than the very best and check you are also happy before cementing the crown.

When only the outer surface of the tooth needs to be restored a veneer can be made. This is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth and can improve the colour or shape of a tooth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps between the teeth.

Missing teeth can be replaced by natural looking bridges beautifully crafted in porcelain. You will feel the benefit in the appearance of your smile and in improved chewing.
Modern bridge techniques mean that we can often place a bridge with only very minimal treatment to the adjacent teeth (or sometimes none at all).

Root fillings
We use the best techniques and a wealth of experience to provide a new lease of life to a tooth which would otherwise need to be extracted. The procedure is pain free and more often than not our patients fall asleep during it as they are so relaxed!

Our modern dentures will look just like real teeth. The secure fit will give you confidence in chewing and socialising.
We can make acrylic or chrome dentures depending on your mouth and preference. Return to top

Gum disease affects many of us to a greater or lesser degree and is the biggest single cause of tooth loss in adults. If left untreated gum disease can result in bleeding gums, loose teeth, bad breath and gum abscesses. Gum disease also affects the rest of the body increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and respiratory infections amongst other conditions. The great news is that gum disease is treatable.

The first stage in management is diagnosis, every patient we see is screened for gum disease so we can advise you of the appropriate treatment.

Our skilled hygienists can administer a variety of treatments under the direction of the dentist. Our treatment plans are focussed on you and we work really hard to help you understand how you can care for your teeth and gums to maintain the very best health.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a means of replacing a missing tooth or teeth or stabilising a denture. Implants provide the nearest alternative to your own teeth and give you confidence and better a quality of life with a great smile and the ability to chew in comfort. There have been many long term studies on implants and success rates are excellent.

We can liaise with other specialists to provide the first part of treatment which is the provision of a titanium screw inserted gently into the jaw, we can then provide a crown attached to this which will bring the implant to life. Return to top

Cosmetic treatment

Tooth whitening
Your smile is important, it’s one of the first things you notice when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful - it can make you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression. Your lifestyle and the ageing process will inevitably stain and darken your teeth. This can be reversed by tooth whitening which is non-invasive, fast and long lasting.
We use the home whitening method which has consistently demonstrated the most reliable and long lasting results. It is simple and safe. We make custom trays on a model of your teeth and show you how to apply the solution. In 7 – 14 days your smile will be noticeably whiter and brighter. The result is long lasting. Some people like to top up after a few years and we can supply more whitening solution if this is required.
